About

I am a Greek / Swedish artist born in 1971, studied BA fine art and art history in Goldsmiths’ university in London, UK, did an additional year of Greek art history in Athens, graduated from Reading University’s MA Fine Art degree program in 1999, and completed a post masters titled Critical Images in the Royal institute of Art in Stockholm KKH

I have exhibited my work in Greece, England, Spain, Holland, Pakistan, Ethiopia as well as being selected to participate in the Moscow 2008 Biennale and exhibiting my work in a solo exhibition in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art in 2010.

In the past I have attempted through my work to bring the remote, the marginal the forgotten the sickly, that world on the outskirts of suburban privilege, into the gallery space in an attempt to immortalize the life of the vulnerable and insignificant. The most important thing for me as an artist was to convey an important social message, and to question stereotypes and perceptions through my work. This method of working proved problematic and after my Stockholm post masters I was forced to question  the subject matter I had worked with thus far and redefine my role as a western artist depicting non western subject matter. I have also been increasingly interested in hierarchies within the contemporary art environment and exclusivity in the age of inclusivity.

I am currently living in Kuwait  with my Dutch husband. As in Moscow, Khartoum, Athens, Amman and Tunis in Kuwait too I have set up a studio where I work on personal projects as well as give art lessons to adults and children.
