Moscow 2008 – 2010

The Moscow Art Studio was the brain child of two women, Ilse Britain and Genoveva Fernandez, that had been studying at the Surikov for a year and were in need to find a place were they could express their artistic spirit freely without the pressure of conventional forms and processes. In order to share this ambition and space and at the same time be able to pay for the rent the lessons became part of the magic that is the Art Studio. Together with Genoveva Fernández and Juana Domingo, the Art Studio became a very special place where we worked, tutored and organized exhibitions together. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity and the studio is now home to my own individual artistic processes. It is still a place where art lessons are held five times a week for amateur art aficionados, as well as ad hoc workshops carried out by invited professional artists. The principle idea of the lessons carried out at the art studio is that people of different levels and capacities can come together in this space to work on their ideas with guidance. For the Art Studio, the necessity to create art is as important as the capacity to do so. The concept and the idea of the Art Studio is something that I have always wanted to do ever since I finished studying. It is also something that I can take with me and continue doing in all our travels. I feel very lucky to belong to this space as it is a hub of artistic energy, enthusiasm and love for the creative process.
